A Little Sonnet from Sonny Cross...

Posted by LewisDalton59 at 10:05, on Sunday, September 5, 2010

South Side Scrapper Twelfth Annual
Bubba Blackwell Senior Golf Tournament…
September 9, 2010.

An Old Scrapper Golf Sonnet
Once again we are ready to fight, the past years we gave all our might;
Never a triumph, never a win, what can one do with the same old men.
Drop them, I may, it’s difficult to do, when you spend so many good years…. with the same old crew.(grin)
Few years left if any at all, why should we suffer another great fall?
We’ll fight, pinch, swindle and scam and hopefully win anyway we can;
This be our destiny, this be our might, yes, we are old but still can fight; so, this is our year, we’ll win, I say, we’ll do it with pride…. the old Scrapper way.
And when someday when we all reach those marvelous Pearly Gates,
Not to far behind…..will be my same old mates.

And to Bubba, George, Joe and Gerald who are always on call… much is appreciated by Scrappers all.
You’ve done your job and stood so tall, whether we win or loose does seem small.
But thanks for those past memories you created so well, our lives have been made better, the world can tell.
And may our God Almighty continue this glorious run;
As we Scrappers look forward to many more years of future fun!…….
Sonny Cross

LEWIS DALTON '59

Posted by LewisDalton59 at 19:11, on Thursday, August 26, 2010

It seems a little strange to be reporting on myself but here goes.

A few weeks ago, my left leg began to swell....I attributed that to my age and forgot it. It kept on getting larger.

My daughter found out about it and made me go to the emergency room for a check up. They told me I had cellulitis, gave me a couple of prescriptions and sent me home.....still no relief from the swelling in my leg.

My daughter then had me come to Jackson, TN so she could take care of Dot while I went to the ER here. They also did an untra sound but included a CT scan. That's when the tumor on my prostate showed up.

I have been to a urologist here in Jackson last Thursday for a biopsy and received my first treatment at the same time. Of course it's cancer but hopefully the Eligard shot the doctor gave me will start to reduce the tumor and I'll get some relief from this leg.

Also, a full body bone scan was setup for this past Tuesday to see if the cancer had spread. I got the report a couple of hours ago......NO CANCER IN THE BONES!!!

Hopefully I'll be hanging around for a little while longer.
Keep on praying for me...

Death of a classmate--Johnny McGaugh, class of 61

Posted by TerryWilliamson51 at 14:46, on Monday, August 23, 2010

From Billie Faye (McGaugh) Hillyard--of Arlington TN., class of 1958---I recently received an email from Billie Faye saying her brother Johnny McGaugh, of, Memphis, class of 61, passed away August 5, 2010. He went to the doctor with severe abdominal pain and all the tests that go with the digestive system were performed. Cancer was found in his lung, kidney and liver but nothing to warrant the pain he was having and no cancer symptoms. We found out he had many other problems going back to a heart attack and 2 heart surgeries 15 years ago. His illness was relatively short, but he suffered a lot in that short time. He complained little. All of his sisters, family, and friends will miss him. Thanks for sharing this as many will remember Johnny.---
